WASHINGTON, D.C.—The buildingSMART alliance™, the public-private council coordinating funding and technical support for advanced information technology throughout the building and capital facilities industry, today announced the membership of its first Board of Direction. FM Global assistant vice president Thomas Gay chairs the oversight and guidance board, slated to hold its first meeting December 8, 2008 in Washington, D.C. in conjunction with the Ecobuild/AEC-ST Fall conference.
Created in 2007, the Alliance is a council of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), the non-governmental, congressionally authorized organization charged with advancing building processes, technologies, and resources in the public interest.
"For the past year and a half, an interim board of direction has ably developed the framework and operating procedures for the buildingSMART alliance," said Mr. Gay. "I particularly thank Jose Teran for his energy and dedication as head of the task force that recommended establishing the Alliance at NIBS."
Mr. Gay continued, "We were happy to register our 200th member last month; under our new Board, we look forward to energizing the advancement of open standards and interoperability in the building industry."
The new Board of Direction comprises one representative appointed by each of the NIBS Councils, Committees and Programs participating in the Alliance; one representative elected by the Alliance membership from each sector of the industry as defined in the NIBS enabling legislation; and representatives from the Alliance sponsoring organizations.
