Standards
A goal of the buildingSMART alliance is to develop a consensus infrastructure to advance open industry standards for interoperability and collaboration between practitioners. Projects are the feeder system to define and test the desired standards. Having a fully engaged and fully resourced approach, which encompasses all stakeholders and life cycle phases, will ensure robust and usable open standards. Standards are the basis for seamless communication and interoperability.
Project Committees are in place for both the National CAD Standard and the National BIM Standard. A member of the Institute and Alliance may join either Project Committee. Only Project Committee members can comment and vote on ballots. But there is no charge to join the Project Committees except that NCS Project Committee members must be in possession of a copy of the National CAD Standard, which they must purchase. Primarily joining the Project Committee is an admission that you are willing to devote the time to participate in the process.
