Your membership dollars continue to be leveraged to help with our continuing effort to transform the facilities industry with all these events and items of interest that occurred this past month:
- Watch for the announcement of the PDF version of the JBIM to be posted in the next couple of weeks. We are currently reviewing the proof copy and it looks very good. I keep saying this, but this is the best issue yet... It is all about BIM and the opportunities of working with GIS tools. A very positive relationship is being built with the GIS community.
- If you wish to be part of the group voting on the National BIM Standard, then you need to apply for the NBIMS Project Committee. You need to get involved early. The rules of governance specify a waiting period from the time of application to the time you can vote, so that you cannot come in at the last minute and only cast a vote without being involved in the review. To apply for the NBIMS Project Committee please visit: http://www.buildingsmartalliance.org/index.php/support/application/ . The NIBS Board approved copy of the NBIMS Rules of Governance are posted on this site currently.
- The National BIM Standard-United States (NBIMS-US) web site is beginning to be updated for version 2. The schedule for version 2 is also posted on that site. As we move forward into January there will also be a status page added.
- If you are planning to attend the December buildingSMART alliance National Conference held in conjunction with Ecobuild America please take note of these specific buildingSMART alliance meetings:
- NBIMS Project Committee - S804 - Thursday 12/9/2010 3:15-4:45pm - Rm 151A*
- Interest Group / National Users Group - S303 - Tuesday 12/7/2010 1:15-2:45pm - Rm 150B*
- BuildingSMART alliance Board of Direction - Monday 3-5pm - Please contact Deke Smith if you would like to participate in this meeting as it is not generally open, due to limited space.
* Please verify in final program as room numbers may still change
There are also complete educational threads for education, BIM-GIS, BIM in Practice, Standards, and Green BIM.
- The response to the request from the Charles Pankow Foundation regarding the scope of the National BIM Standard was transmitted to them recently. The document will be available on-line this week for all others to view. In the meantime you can view the response here: http://projects.buildingsmartalliance.org/files/?artifact_id=3285
- In order to coordinate efforts across the industry and to begin developing a level of trust for information so that it does not have to be continually re-gathered the Stakeholder Activity Model was initiated. It is also goal #2 of our strategic plan. The preliminary report for phase 1 of the project is provided here: http://projects.buildingsmartalliance.org/files/?artifact_id=3275. The document will soon be available on the public web site under the projects section. This will allow you to actually see the charts included in the document.
- The international community gathered in Copenhagen earlier in the month for the International Council meetings. While the minutes and a list of the resolutions made during that meeting are not yet available, the material presented at the meeting can be viewed here: http://www.buildingsmart.com/content/international_council_meeting_copenhagen_2010. There was also a International Technical Management (ITM) meeting, International Framework Dictionary (IFD) and an International Users Group (IUG) coordination meeting held during the same time. An Implementers Support Group (ISG) was held just after that meeting. This represents the breadth of buildingSMART International’s focus on users, software vendors and the technical aspects of BIM.
- An additional meeting was held in London with the Middle East Chapter to discuss their plans for the Middle East countries. They have also unveiled a new web site available here: http://www.bsame.org. Theirs is a very dynamic and rapidly expanding chapter.
- Presentations about BIM and buildingSMART alliance were provided to the Architectural Precast Association, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, Federal Express World Headquarters, and the Lab21 Conference this month ever expanding the understanding of our mission and relevance to the industry.
- Reminder: Virginia Tech is conducting a survey on Innovative Project Delivery to benchmark the industry perception and use of innovative project delivery in architecture, engineering, construction, and owner (AECO) industries. The survey link is found at (please copy and paste into a new window if it does not open directly): https://virginiatech.qualtrics.com/SE?SID=SV_9S67pqK82QADi60. Please feel free to forward the survey link to other organizations and colleagues who can provide us with their input. The survey will take about 10-15 minutes. Please complete the questionnaire by September 24th, 2010. We greatly appreciate your contribution and assistance for distribution. We will share a summary report of the survey results upon request.
Thank you for your time and consideration
