Oct 31 2010
- The minutes from the Board of Direction meeting for the month can be found here: http://projects.buildingsmartalliance.org/files/?artifact_id=3329
- The month started with participation at the Lab 21 Conference in Albuquerque, NM, and ended with a draft Memorandum of Agreement for a long-term agreement with Labs for the 21st Century ready to be signed. We are also beginning to work on a similar agreement with IFMA.
- We initiated an effort with Doug Christensen at Brigham Young University related to his Total Cost of Operations effort. This is a strategy, which supports BYU’s recapitalization effort, the approach looks at all life cycle costs, not just initial cost, when they decide to build a new facility.
- The AGC BIM Forum in Atlanta was a very successful event as it was focused on the owner. Several presentations from an owner’s point of view were provided. BIM Forum is also co-developers of the Education Thread in the December conference.
- The NBIMS Planning Committee and Technical Sub-Committee have been very busy in preparing for the upcoming kick-off of NBIMS-US Consensus Standard on January 3, 2011. The goal is to have a standard in place by the end of the calendar year. A slightly revised schedule is now posted on the NBIMS web site. This schedule is tied to the Rules of Governance so that activities and responsibilities can be looked up in that document related to the deadlines.
- It is not too late to join the NBIMS-US Project Committee – Please visit the join page of the web site and select to be part of the committee: http://www.buildingsmartalliance.org/index.php/support/application/
- We are in the process of identifying items to be balloted for the NBIMS-US. Work groups will soon be established. Please contact David Morris david_morris@emcorgroup.com or Deke Smith dsmith@nibs.org with any items that you feel should be considered for inclusion in the first consensus version of the NBIMS. More information will be provided to the NBIMS Project Committee in mid November, including a link to the ballot form.
- The process for getting to the standard is provided at this location: http://www.buildingsmartalliance.org/index.php/nbims/nbimsprocess for your reference.
- The new edition of JBIM is posted in a PDF available to members only until it is shipped later this week, watch for yours in the mail. This edition is all about BIM and GIS. This is a very important new area of growth related to our work and has been under development for some time.
- A guide to the buildingSMART alliance Conference can be found in the middle of our front page. The links will take you to a comprehensive list of all that is going on December 6-9, 2010 in Washington DC. Once you get to the web site you also might check out the “Conference at a Glance” under the “Event Schedule” tab at the top of the page. My guide will not be published this year as the show management has done a great job of laying it all out. Your challenge will still be to figure out how you can be in two or three places at the same time.
